2017 Peugeot 3008 – Redesigned to a Whole New Level

It’s been eight years since Peugeot introduced their 3008 model. Since it has been so long French car maker is preparing to completely change the looks of their compact crossover for the 2017 model year. The changes will include an overhaul of the entire exterior, interior and it won’t stop just there. The platform will be different, and we will see a switch from PSA’s PF2 to much younger EMP2. Developing of the underpinnings and new technologies that are going to be used on 2017 Peugeot 3008, and are already being used on 308 and 408 models, costed company around $708 million. With all these changes and the addition of new technologies made the 3008 to switch market segment. It will no longer be a crossover but more like the compact SUV.

Exterior design of 2017 Peugeot 3008

Peugeot models that have hit the light of the day in recent times have all been completely redesigned. The new look is noticeable on every Peugeot model, and 3008 Peugeot follows in their footsteps. But, while other models resemble their predecessors in some aspects, 3008 has been completely changed for the purpose of fitting into a new segment. With its bold styling, new grill that is now mounted a bit higher, aggressively styled sides and chrome details attached to the lower fender parts, it no longer looks like an MPV but more as a fully-fledged SUV.

French sense of class is now more prominent on the 3008 with the addition of new headlights, black roof pillars, and newly-shaped taillights. Additional features that 2017 Peugeot 3008 shares with its brethren are front grill which has Peugeot letters incorporated on the top end. The lion emblem is centered in the middle of the mask. Chrome details on the grill give the 3008 somehow premium appearance. From additional equipment there are 17, 18 and 19-inch ULRR wheels. Size vise new 3008 is longer than its previous version by 80mm. It is also lighter by 100kg, thankfully to the new platform and lighter materials that have been used.

Interior design

Just like the exterior, the interior underwent changes from bottom to the top. Aged equipment, materials used, it all has been replaced. Console now looks clean, with only a couple of buttons that remained. What now occupies the middle of the dashboard is the 12.3-inch touchscreen. The screen is fused together with an I-Cockpit system. These are used to complete all and every action inside of the cabin. Interior also features entirely new dashboard, new wheel, new seats and all of this gives the cabin much sportier look.

With the car being longer and bigger on the outside, it also created more room in the interior. More headroom and legroom is now available for the passengers on the back seats. With length and width increased, the 3008 appears as a really comfortable car. Available cargo space has also been increased, so much indeed, that when you fold the back seats, it has 55.8 cubic feet of space.

Technology options have also been pushed to a whole another level. It starts with updated i-Cockpit, which has new sensors, and includes Sight, Hearing, Touch and Smell options. From standard features that come with a base model of the 2017 Peugeot 3008 you get: MirrorScreen, MirrorLink, 3D navigation, TomTom traffic, AndroidAuto, AppleCar play and Focal sound system.

Engine and transmission

Engine options didn’t come as a surprise to anyone, because as expected, they offer small and efficient units. Petrol powertrain lineup is consisted of 1.2 and 1.6-liter four-cylinder while the diesel ones are also four cylinders 1.6 and 2.0-liter engines.

Base option is PSA’s 1.2-liter PureTech with 128hp. It comes with a six-speed, either manual or automatic, transmission. An option that tops the range is 1.6-liter THP engine with 163hp which is available only with automatic transmission.

Diesel drivetrains start with a 1.6-liter BlueHDi that develops 99hp, and the only option is the manual five-speed transmission. Next in the lineup is the same engine only with 118hp, and with options of six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Top range unit is the 2.0-liter BlueHDi, available in pair with both automatic and manual six-speed gearbox, boasting 148hp and 177hp respectively.

Safety

Peugeot didn’t go through details regarding safety features that will be on 2017 Peugeot 3008, stating that all will be revealed at the Paris Auto Show. They did, however, give us a lengthy list of things that will find itself on their new SUV. Some of the features include ASB (Active Safety Brake), Distance Alert, Involuntary Crossing Line and Driver Alert Warning. We are not sure will all of these be available on all trims or just on premium ones. Standard equipment across all trims, and that’s confirmed, will be Speed Sign Detection, High Beam Assistance, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and Active Blind Spot monitoring.

Price and release date

The 2017 Peugeot 3008 will go on sale in November of this year. Before the release it will have an introduction at the Paris Auto Show. Upcoming model will cost few thousands of pounds more compared to the previous version. This is more than acceptable considering just how much the car is upgraded regarding exterior styling, interior design, and technology. As such the price will most likely start at $28,960 for the base model. The top end trim price will be in the region of $43,350. With all above mentioned new 3008 is more than ready to give its competitors, the Qashqai and Sportage, run for their money.
