8 Non-Tesla Cars Elon Musk Has Owned

6. McLaren F1

Young Elon Musk featured in documentary about millionaires (1999)

The McLaren F1 came into Musk possession after he sold PayPal. He told Pando Daily three years ago: “I had it for several years and I put 11,000 miles on it, and I drove it from LA to San Francisco. I had it as a daily driver.” Unfortunately, this beauty got totaled. In his interview, he said that he was driving together with the co-founder of PayPal, Peter Thiel and they were going to see Michael Moritz, a venture capitalist with Sequoia Capital.

Musk added: “Peter said ‘so what can this do’ and like probably on number one on the list of famous last words I said ‘watch this.’ So I floored it and did a lane change on Sand Hill.” However, Musk hit an embankment which launched his car into the air and once it fell on the ground it was beyond repair. Plus the car had no insurance.
