2017 Chevrolet Suburban – When Tahoe is not enough

Believe it or not, longest production model with the same nameplate in the world is Chevy Suburban. It dates all the way back to 1935 when it was born with a body of a station wagon, when in 1973 it reached proper SUV look with the revelation of the eight generation. During the 90’s it became accompanied by Tahoe, which was a completely identical car just with the shorter body.

GMC also used the Suburban name in badge engineering case from 1973 till 1999, while after it was renamed Yukon XL. Current twelfth generation was introduced in 2014 and let’s see what 2017 Chevrolet Suburban has to offer.

2017 Chevrolet Suburban STYLING

Well, Tahoe is enormous. It is full-size SUV, and the name suggests that it couldn’t be possibly more, but there is. Tahoe is over 5 meters long, but the thing in question, Suburban is well over 5.5 meters long, and that is making it basically boat on wheels. Just the sheer size makes it imposing enough on the road, but large chrome grille just adds fuel to the fire. When looked from the side or the back it has the grace of a rock, but mentioned size don’t allow anything better.

CABIN

The cabin is no less enormous, and it features better materials than rivals. The boot can be so huge that in top 121.1 cubic feets it can act as a small house. Even if the third row of seats stand it can accommodate 38.9 cubic feet, while if you send it to the floor magnificent 76.7 cubic’s are at your disposal. A very strangely third row of seating doesn’t provide expected comfort as seats are very thin and leg room is not praiseworthy which is hard to comprehend keeping in mind its size.

ENGINE

Under the hood is mighty 5.3-liter V8 engine producing 355 hp and 383 pound-feet of torque. This beast can be paired with six-speed automatic, without further choice. Sadly, the reaction on pushing the pedal is rather lame, while the car is asking you are you serious in your demand to drive this building-like vehicle faster down the road. Base version employs rear-wheel drive with a locking rear differential, while you can opt for the four-wheel drive with a single-speed transfer case or even with two-speed transfer case for maximum off-road capabilities.

Towing capacity is 6,300 pounds, but if you opt for Max Trailering Package, it jumps to astonishing 8,300 pounds. The engine is powerful enough to accelerate this enormous thing in 7.2 seconds to 60 mph, which is a great figure. If you like your wallet skip this sentence, as Suburban returns 19 mpg combined of fuel economy or even one number less with AWD. For the ride, noise and comfort part we can only say that are decent, while we are not going to comment maneuverability and the dynamic part as you can all predict what applies there.

Chevrolet Suburban 2017 TRIMS

You have three trim levels: LS, LT, and Premier level, with some separate packages. Standard equipment is lavishly abundant as it includes 18-inch alloy wheels, active grille shutters, rear parking sensors, automatic wipers, cruise control, remote ignition, remote keyless entry, tri-zone automatic climate control, power adjusting for front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and much more. For the tech part, you can count on 8-inch touchscreen MyLink infotainment system, OnStar emergency telematics with navigation, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, Wi-Fi hot spot, a six-speaker CD player, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and amazing five USB ports, among else.

CONCLUSION

If you are looking for maximum size and space, great towing capacity, proper off-road capabilities, while ready to disregard fuel economy, driving dynamics and stylish looks, look no further. Ford Expedition is ten crazy years on the market and Toyota Sequoia 8 long years, making this 2017 Chevrolet Suburban definitely prettiest brute between the bunch.
