2017 Ford Super Duty Chassis Cab – Tow-Plow, It Can Do Whatever You Wish

The all new Super Duty series of trucks were unveiled a few months ago by Ford. However, up to this point, these are still unavailable for sale mainly because Ford wanted to clear the stocks of the older models. On top of that, it seems that they are trying to optimize the production of the truck further to make everything flow seamlessly. No official date has been announced, but the all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty Chassis Cab is going to become available for sale in the upcoming months. This will be offered for the F-350, 450 and 550 versions of the truck and it should be available in different configurations as well.

Take into account though that the only available with single rear wheels will be the 350. The other two will be offering dual-wheels configurations at the back even for the standard trim level. The price is still unknown for the chassis cab version, but it seems that it might be only slightly more expensive than the previous model. This is great because the regular models are sometimes up to $5,000 more than before which is simply bad coming from Ford. The 2016 version was priced at $32,740 for the F-350 model while F-450 and F-550 Chassis Cab versions were sitting at $36,720 and $37,820 respectively.

Exterior and Interior Design

The upcoming 2017 Ford Super Duty Chassis Cab is going to get all the regular features and upgrades the normal truck has. Just like the F-250, the chassis cab comes with an all-new high strength steel frame with more welding points than before. This ensures better rigidity and also a higher available payload. On top of that, the axles, brakes and especially the suspension for the new model have been considerably improved and beefed up. Unfortunately, the chassis cab is not that much lighter than before; materials upgrade did not cause it to lose a lot of weight. However, it is lighter despite the heavier frame and running gear. This is thanks to an all-aluminum cabin and a front end which is all identical to those found on the F-250. Also, the cabin is the same as that on the smaller F-150 in order to allow Ford to save quite a bit on manufacturing the aluminum parts. Few things have been reinforced since customers do need durability and reliability in trucks like this.

There is not that much to say about the interior of these models. Why? Well, the chassis cab is usually the most basic model which comes only with the basic features. However, this time around Ford is going to offer upgrade packages. These will include a better Sync 3 infotainment system, electric windows, keyless entry, automatic climate control and even an adaptive cruise control system. During the last few years we saw significant changes in the truck market, and now even work mules need to offer more comfort as that is what buyers are looking for. With the help of the 360-degree camera unit and the trailer sway control system installed, the chassis cab will be able to handle a more than 30,000 pounds trailer without any issues. Impressive result and one of the best ratings in the class.

2017 Ford Super Duty Chassis Cab Powerplant

Depending on the model of choice, the future 2017 Ford Super Duty Chassis Cab is going to be available with three different engines. The 6.7-liter turbocharged V8 diesel with 300 horsepower, and 660 lb-ft of torque is going to be offered as an option across the range. We saw the same engine in regular Super Duty vehicles but it was capable of pumping out 440 hp and insane 925 lb-ft of torque, but it’s not clear if it will come to Chassis Cab model and if it will offer only 300 hp version or few more. This will come combined with a heavy-duty six-speed automatic and rear or four wheels drive. The F-250 and the F-350 are both going to come equipped with standard with a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8. This petrol engine will be capable of running on CNG or propane, and it should be able to offer 385 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. A 6.8-liter V10 with 362 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque is going to be standard on the larger 450 and 550 trucks. However, it seems that shortly after release, Ford might install a new EcoBoost engine under the hood of their heavy duty trucks. So far the 3.5-liter V6 unit appears to be the best one to fit the role. However, things might change before this happens and Ford might release an even larger and more powerful EcoBoost powerplant.
