In 2010 Ram was separated from Dodge and became a stand-alone brand. Somewhere around that time, mid-size pickup Dacota was discontinued primarily because sales of mid-size and compact trucks were laughable in years before, compared to the high popularity of full-size siblings. They basically left Ram with only one model, if we put aside a couple of other options that were rebadged versions of other manufacturers vehicles.
Six years of life span is not so strict when the world of trucks is concerned, but after eight years on the market, Americans should think about the new generation, especially as almost all rivals are way younger than it. Anyway, before that happens we will be amused with one more, among many, special version, and this time it is 2017 Ram 1500 Copper Sport.
2017 Ram 1500 Copper Sport AGAIN?
Yes. We know that we just wrote about Power Wagon couple of days before and we understand that it is also a special version, but if you look at the Ram’s lineup, you’ll see myriads of unique editions. But here is another one, priced same as Power Wagon, but worlds apart in everything else. Power Wagon was beefed up version of heavy duty 2500 model, and it is hardcore as it can get, we mean both solid axles, Warn winch, disconnectable front sway bar type of thing.
But what if you are not so crazy about dismantling your truck over rocks, ditches, and trenches, and you dig pickup looks, while you don’t plan to climb the Himalayas with it? Then think about this Copper Sport thing.
COPPER-ISH
The main thing about this special version is just that. It’s copper-ish all over. The exterior is painted with Copper Pearl color, and it suits it more than well. Also interior has same color accents all over the place with the same coloring for Ram badges and Sport designation along with copper contrast stitching on black leather seats which now has middle part covered in contrast fabric with a special mesh pattern.
This edition already includes Sport Package, but it additionally elaborates on that with blacked out hood, black badges and 22-inch wheels, though 4WD model gets 20-inch ones. Add to all of that nine-speaker, including subwoofer, Alpine audio system and you have a pretty interesting package here.
2017 Ram 1500 Copper Sport UNDER THE SKIN
This special version comes only with top of the range Hemi V8, which squeeze 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque from 5.7-liter powerplant while coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission. Also, Copper edition is based on 1500 model, so you’ll have decent road behavior, we refer to paved one, apart from powerful performance. Don’t be fooled by this half-toner, it is maybe below heavy duty versions in off-road capabilities, but it is hardly possible that you are ever going to get stuck with it unless you intentionally provoke it.
NATURE OF IT
If you were thinking that maybe Ram is exaggerating with all those special versions, that means you haven’t gone deep into details. Power Wagon is hard-core working utility, beefed up with cool styling, feeling at home in three feet of mud. On the other hand, the 2017 Ram 1500 Copper Sport, is a handsome truck, intended to turn the heads on city’s crowds while cruising through its streets, but also being ready to roll up its sleeves if necessary. If you want one prepare to cash out $47,000, visit Chicago Auto Show and hurry up as only 3,000 of them will be built.
