2018 Audi A7 – Lighter, Faster and a bit Redesigned

Audi A7 can’t be considered as an iconic model yet, but the German automaker is going down that road with this vehicle. The A7 has been around for some time now, and the Ingolstadt-based company is ready to change it up a bit. The biggest problem is lying in the fact that current gen A7 is so good that it’s hard to improve it. Even the chief designer of Audi, Marc Lichte, stated that updating of this car is not an easy task. Despite the general opinion about the quality of this vehicle the new 2018 Audi A7 is coming so let’s see how will it be better than the old model.

New A7 – New Design

Regarding the design, the 2018 Audi A7 will be improved both from the inside and outside. New VW MLB EVO platform did its job on weight and fuel economy but what else is changed? The hard job of redesigning the A7 went successfully at least looking at the test mules. The new model features large front grille similar to the one on Prologue concept. The headlights look rather the same but thanks to the lower roofline the taillights look slimmer at the back.

Moving into the interior of the car the changes are even more radical. The cabin will be even more futuristic than it was in the Prologue concept. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit will make a debut on this model making it quite luxurious and interesting for those that want a tech-rich vehicle.

Audi A7 2018 Specs

As far as the engines go the carmaker will offer a variety of options for its costumers. The range goes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, both petrol, and diesel, for a base A7 and a 3.0-liter V-6 also with both fuel options and with different output numbers for upper trims. V-8 probably won’t find its way into the 2018 Audi A7 unless the market shows the desire for it, then Germans could add this unit to the mix. Thanks to the TDI cheating scandal there also won’t be six-cylinder V-6 diesel available in the US. Instead, there will be some forced-induction V-6 gasoline mills to choose from the lineup.

Main Competitors

The segment where A7 tops the competition is not an easy one to have a leading role. That’s why upgraded 2018 model is coming among other reasons. The competition in this market is both internal and external. We have the A7 that stands shoulder to shoulder with its’ brother the Audi A6 and a pleiad of rival models. Most notable include 2017 BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz AMG E43, 2017 Cadillac CTS, 2018 Jaguar XF, and BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe.

New Audi A7 Price

The current version of A7 starts at a price of $69,000 which is a fair price for a model of this caliber. The new car will come with a slight redesign, made on a new platform and with decreased weight and improved interior and fuel efficiency. Most of these changes merit an increase in price, and this will imminently happen. Expect for 2018 Audi A7 to come with a price tag of $73,000 for a base model.

2018 Audi A7 Release date

Moving on to the date of release, it shouldn’t be expected on the roads before the end of the year. New A7 will come as 2018 MY, and as such, it should be introduced this year. The official presentation could happen at one of the North American auto shows which are scheduled for the end of this year (Las Vegas or Los Angeles), but this information hasn’t been confirmed by Audi or by organizers of these events.
