2019 Jeep Scrambler Price, Release Date

One year ago Jeep confirmed plans to build a Wrangler-based pickup truck in their Toledo, Ohio plant. They didn’t announce when will the work on this vehicle begin, but they started without telling us. How do we know this? Well, hard-working spy photographers caught first glimpses of what’s to be a 2019 Jeep Scrambler. Not the name you were expecting? Neither did we, nor there’s official confirmation that it will carry this badge. But for now, we’ll stick with it, and we hope you will do the same.

Those who don’t want this name to be the official branding of this truck will be glad to hear that Toledo-based company is considering other nameplates. Those that are in the mix include nomenclature that was previously used by this manufacturer such as Comanche, Gladiator, and Willys Jeep Truck.

Regardless of its name, what we can tell you is that pickup in question is featuring a crew cab body and a bed with satisfying proportions. The vehicle is like we said based on Jeep Wrangler and is its spitting image from the front end to the start of the bed. What we can tell you is that interior will probably mimic what latest gen of company’s SUV, on which it’s based, has to offer. At the back, we will have a flip-down tailgate which is pretty much standard these days. The spied truck is the one with four doors, and we are unsure will there be a two-door version from the start.

Competitors

While there will certainly be interest in 2019 Jeep Scrambler, it will have to fight hard for its share of the market. In addition to recently introduced 2019 Ford Ranger, there are also competitors such as Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Toyota Tacoma. But what will separate Scrambler from these rivals is its off-road capability. The model based on Wrangler SUV will have a lot to offer in this department. Its chassis will feature ladder frame and solid axles suspended by coil springs which will give it an advantage compared to other offerings in the segment.

Under The Hood

The power of 2019 Scrambler will come in the form of 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 equipped with mild-hybrid tech and 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. As you probably guessed this unit matches that which is available in 2018 Jeep Wrangler. Another powertrain also shared with its SUV counterpart is a 3.6-liter V-6 that comes with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of grunt. Wrangler also has a plug-in-hybrid and diesel versions, and these will probably be a part of the Scrambler lineup.

2019 Jeep Scrambler Price and Release date

2019 Jeep Scrambler will most likely have a grand introduction at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. So, all of you who were hoping for it to be available earlier, don’t hold your breath. Taking the Ford/Jeep rivalry into account Toledo giant will look to overshadow Ranger’s 2018 debut. The best place to do this is the 2019 NAIAS. Expect the new Jeep truck in the dealerships by the end of spring, 2019.

Considering that 2018 Wrangler costs $28,000 it is hard to imagine that 2019 Jeep Scrambler could command a price lower than that. It can be assumed that it will start at that mark, or maybe slightly above. Toyota Tacoma goes from $27,000, and same is with Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Ranger starts a bit lower than that, but with off-road capabilities that Scrambler is going to offer, it will go head to head with these competitors.
