As a mix of Maybach’s and Pullman’s S600 sedans, the new vehicle had its debut in the form of an ultra-luxurious version of the S-Class Cabriolet. The production is limited to just 300 cars (75 for U.S.) marked with the “S650” label which will make it one of the world’s most elite convertibles.
The S650 that was presented on Wednesday at the LA auto show had a distinct red paint that closely resembles the hue used on Maybach’s 6 Concept which debuted at the Monterey Car Week earlier this year.
Mercedes-Maybach S650 Engine
Mercedes never worked on the 650 trim and Maybach’s S600 vehicles have less power than the new car. The S650 will have the same engine specifications as Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet which runs on the twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 engine with 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The 7-speed automatic transmission is used, and it sends power to the rear-wheels and to reduce any ride harshness convertible will have adaptive air suspension.
Inside views
The interior of the vehicle is something the manufacturers are proud of. Flowing lines are formed by accent stitching which goes from the front to the rear finishing with a gorgeous tonneau extension. The car seats have a waterfall-like upholstery layout with elegant lines. The S650 and S-Class Cabriolet share the same soft-top roof.
In the cabin, the wood dash accents are also noticeable. Underneath the veneer is a substrate which is made in a unique fine milling process. The three-dimensional effect is accomplished with individually milled lines which follow the shape of the trim. The central storage compartment has a piano black lid with a mark “1 of 300” which just says how elite this car is.
The car will be sold in U.S. in three color combinations: Zircon Red exterior with Porcelain and Black interior, Cote d’Azure Blue exterior with Porcelain and Saddle Brown interior and a Diamond White exterior with Porcelain and Yacht Blue interior.
Price details
Although the price of the Mercedes-Maybach S650 is still unknown, buyers will most likely have to pay over $200,000 for this car. The owners will also get as a gift a custom car cover and a certificate signed by Mercedes boss himself Dieter Zetsche.
