Euro NCAP, or the European New Car Assessment Programme, is an independent organization dedicated to vehicle safety. It was first set up in 1997 in response to a growing interest for car safety across Europe and has continued to work to improve on-road safety. Euro NCAP assesses new cars with a star rating system from one to five stars based on their performance in areas such as adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection, safety assist technologies and other features. Star ratings are used by automakers around the world as a measure of vehicle safety, so understanding the Euro NCAP system can help make choosing a car much easier.
Crash Test Ratings and Results
Euro NCAP or the European New Car Assessment Program is an independent organization that evaluates the safety of new cars. Through a series of crash tests designed to replicate real-world scenarios, Euro NCAP provides drivers with five-star ratings on overall safety performance in areas such as adult and child occupant protection.
The Crash Test Reports created by Euro NCAP demonstrate the results of each crash test assessment and include information about how each car performed in all four categories: adult occupant, child occupant, vulnerable road users (pedestrians/cyclists) and safety assist technologies. This data is then used to create the overall EuroNCAP rating of each car, which gives drivers a clear indication of its level of protection in comparison to other models.
In order for a car to be awarded five stars it must perform well in all four categories and meet certain additional criteria including the presence and performance of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). When assessing different cars, EuroNCAP looks at body structure integrity, head restraint performance, whiplash protection, and airbags as well as other factors such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems.
The last series of safety tests in the 2022, conducted by the European Committee of Independent Crash Tests, showed the expected, but at the same time, interesting results. We tell you who is the safest in Europe: the results of Euro NCAP 2022.
