On Sunday, the Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix Race was run in Miami, Florida as F1 begins its biggest year in the United States yet. It will be one of three races held in the United States this year with races in Austin, Texas, and Las Vegas, Nevada also on the schedule for this season.

It was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who would earn his second-straight win in Miami after winning the grand prix in its inaugural year last year. For the most part, it was an uneventful race with 18 of the 20 drivers finishing on the lead lap as Oscar Piastri and Nyck de Vries were the only drivers to finish off the lead lap, both finishing a lap behind.
Verstappen would start ninth in Sunday’s race but would make up ground by working his way toward the front within the first few laps and quickly finding himself within the top five. By lap 15, he had moved into second place and a few laps later would take the lead. After a pit stop on lap 46, he would come out behind Sergio Perez and would quickly retake the lead on lap 47.
Perez would challenge Verstappen over the final 10 laps but it was clear that Verstappen wouldn’t be denied on Sunday in Miami.
“Today was a good day,” Verstappen said about his race. “I stayed out of trouble at the beginning and I had a smooth race, I picked the cars off one by one. I had a good stint on the hard tyres which I think was integral to the win today,” he added.
His teammate Sergio Perez, despite leading for a large chunk of the race, didn’t walk away hanging his head. “Well done to Max, he had a tremendous race and deserved to win, I am really happy for him,” Perez said about Verstappen taking home the win. “It is not always nice when you lead the race and end up second, certainly I didn’t have the pace of Max and it is something we are going to analyze to see how we can do better,” he added about what went wrong on Sunday. “There was maybe a bit more we could have done; it is a bit of a shame really but in general, on a tough weekend P2 is not a bad result. We will review the weekend. I want to get back strong for Imola and get back to our normal level,” he would finish off saying in his post-race interview.
Either way, one thing has been for certain this season. Red Bull Racing is still very much in a class of its own and is heads and shoulders above the rest of the competition. Verstappen and Perez have dominated this season and there appears to be no end in sight for that domination.
With Verstappen picking up his third win of the year, it ties him with Sebastian Vettel for the most wins by a Red Bull driver at 38. He’ll have an opportunity to overtake Vettel in two weeks in Imola. His 38 wins have him sitting sixth all-time in F1 history. He now sits just three wins behind Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna who has 41 and 13 behind legendary French driver Alain Prost who owns 51 career victories all time.
Through the first five races of the season, Max Verstappen leads the Drivers Standings with 119 points, closely followed by his Red Bull teammate in Sergio Perez. So far through five races, either Verstappen or Perez has won each race, alternating wins. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alsono currently sits in third place with 75 points, he’s finished in third four times this season and finished fourth once.
Red Bull is out to a huge lead in the World Constructors’ Championship standings with 224 points. Aston Martin is in second place with 102 points while Mercedes is third with 96. They are looking for their second-straight World Constructors’ Championship.
