This would be a little difficult to explain, keeping in mind that one car managed to incorporate a slice of more than a few legendary automotive worlds. So, if you don’t know already what is 2017 Trans Am 455 Super Duty, read carefully as we go step by step.
TRANS AM?
First of all, Trans-Am could be the name of racing championship founded all the way back in 1966. Trans Am could also be a special version of Pontiac’s Firebird which flavored it through all generations. And last, add Depot after Trans Am moniker, and it could be small US special car manufacturer located in Tallahassee Florida. Well, this thing is all off them, as it is built by Trans Am Depot as a resurrection of Firebird Trans Am, which is an homage by itself to Trans Am racing series.
WHERE CHEVY FITS?
As we all know, the Pontiac was a part of GM but, unfortunately, it was axed in 2010, to put it mildly, along with some other brands, after 2008 financial crisis took its toll on American giant. Also, the last generation (fourth) of Firebird ceased to exist even earlier in 2002 along with special Trans Am package, so guys from Trans Am Depot had to turn to something else.
That’s how we got to Chevy, and Camaro more precisely, which posed as a canvas for all insane ideas that those guys had. So far, they fiddled with previous generation Camaro, but time has come for some real work, as we all know what capabilities new Alpha platform brought.
I DONT SEE CAMARO THERE?
Off course you don’t see, you are not supposed to. Camaro has donated things under the skin, and there was no better place to turn to. Underneath we have current generation Camaro with all its mind-blowing racing abilities but elevated to another level. Naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 from SS, have been touched by Nascar engine builder resulting in volume growth to 7.4-liter or 455 cubic inches giving more reason to its name.
The same engine got a little help from special Magnuson TVS2300 supercharger and its 14 psi of boost, but don’t be fooled thinking you got the same result as in the supercharged ZL1 model. No, this is a different type of game, in which even Dodge Demon has to curl its tail, as this thing delivers 1,000 hp and 1046 lb-ft of torque. The car also has staggered wheel setup with 20×10 inches up front and 20×11 at the rear, dressed in 285/35R20 and 305/35R20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, along with massive 15-inch rotors at all corners within Brembo braking package. Carbon has not been spared obviously as it was used for bumpers, fenders, hood and tailgate.

I CAN SEE TRANS AM!
Honestly, you can also see Camaro here on the outside, if you look at side profile and lights, but most of the things are there to reminisce about the meanest Pontiac’s product. In fact, it was visually most aggressive muscle car product of all times, as Trans Am models were not just menacing things, they were genuinely scary and totally uncompromised in their effort to show total appearance lunacy.
Mandatory historic marks as Screaming Chicken on bumped hood, an allusion to quad headlights, three strip layout of taillights and “beaked” fascia are there, done in a way to reminisce the second generation of Firebird, more precisely 1977 model, which would also include resemblance to its beautifully sculptured tail. Mentioned legendary model had quad exhaust pipes, though the ones used here appear as they have been taken from some Lexus’s F model, yet nevertheless, they fit amazing to the whole picture.
IF YOU WANT ONE
Now you know what Trans Am is, what is 455, while for Super Duty, be sure that if you mention this to any TA fan his or her heart will start pumping a lot faster. 2017 Trans Am 455 Super Duty has just debuted at New York Auto Show, and it is only going to be built in 50 samples. Price has not been disclosed, but just mere 1,000 hp and significant use of carbon is telling us that it is not going to be a cheap deal and it shouldn’t be, cause it’s special.
