2018 BMW X5 seen suited up for production

The German automaker is currently working on a new vehicle known inside the company as the “G05” which should be the successor of BMW X5. The G05 which was spotted with a production body has a lot of similarities with the 2018 X3 prototype that was also spied earlier this week. Although it still has the temporary headlights and taillights, it seems that the car might soon be ready for production.

BMW wanted to keep the mid-size Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) design, so that is what we should expect to be under all that camouflage. There are, however, some changes that can be spotted right away and those include the bigger kidney grille, reshaped bumpers and a slightly larger dual exhaust tips giving the new model a sportier look.

The vehicle is expected to be slightly wider than its predecessor. Judging from the photos, the wheel arches might be broader, but then again, the prototype used smaller wheels, so this could be quite misleading. Contrary to its increase in size, the cars weight will be decreased because of the CLAR platform which uses aluminum reinforced with carbon fiber just like the most recent 7 Series.

2018 BMW X5 Release date

BMW plans to develop a new vehicle based on X5 and name it X7. This will be an SUV with seven seats, and there will also be a variation of that with an ultra-luxurious version with four seats with a price tag of approximately $100,000. The 2018 BMW X5 will be showcased by the end of 2017 while the first-ever X7 will most likely have its debut as a 2019MY so expect to see it in two years. Will the ultra-luxurious model be available to customers from the beginning? We don’t know yet. What we are aware is that the Spartanburg factory in the States will be the one to assemble both X5 and X7 like it did with X3, X4, and X6 models.

In the meantime, the German automaker also plans to reveal a new version of X1 mixed with X2 in a coupe form. This could be previewed last month in Paris. Crazy amount of work that BMW is investing in SUV and crossover segment but looking at the sale figures on these respective segments we fully understand these moves.
