Last year Fit received somewhat of a refresh with an updated grille, rear and front fascia, and a new set of wheels. The facelifted 2018 MY was rounded up with the addition of a new Sport trim. The move of giving small Fit a bit of sportiness was well accepted by customers so we can expect exactly the same trim setup next year. But, because of all these changes 2019 Honda Fit will have very little novelties to offer.
Exterior and Interior
Design-wise new 2019 Fit will be a carryover model. The visual changes will be kept to a minimum. The same treatment will be applied on the inside. The Japanese manufacturer considers Fit to be an up to date vehicle. This is the primary reason they are postponed thorough updates until 2020 MY or even beyond that. All of you that want a redesigned Honda Fit will have to arm yourself with patience as there’s more than two years of the wait ahead of us all.
The no-new-things motto applied here on 2019 Honda Fit means that all of the features that came last year are still going to be there. These include a rear-view camera, automatic headlights, LED taillights, a 5-inch infotainment screen, cruise control, remote keyless entry, power windows and locks, one-touch up/down driver’s window, air conditioning, and Magic Seats. The best thing about the Fit is that this is standard equipment.
Additional features available on upper trims include a new 7-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, new audio system, and navigation. Honda Sensing Suite is also available on the ongoing Fit. This system includes features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.
Engine and Transmission
Under the hood of 2019 Honda Fit, you will find the same noise-maker. It’s a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder unit capable of producing 130 horsepower. This output really puts Sport in Fit, making it better than most of the competitors. Japanese carmaker made sure that this model gets the best out of this powerplant and thus added Honda’s i-VTEC and Variable Timing Control (VTC). Thanks to this, Fit can produce more power at higher revs and offer better performance. The same tech aids in fuel economy when you are on the highway or are cruising around the city. The power of this 4-cylinder engine is transferred to front wheels only, through a six-speed manual or CVT transmission.
2019 Honda Fit release date and Price
Although Honda didn’t announce the release schedule for new Fit, we are expecting it during this year. As the summer is hastily approaching, the first news that 2019 model is going to be a summer release is highly unlikely to be true. The real release date will probably be set in late autumn or early winter. Stay tuned with us, as we are going to update this information as soon as they become available.
2019 Honda Fit will retain its prices from 2018 MY. This is to be expected considering that the vehicle is a carryover model. The current MSRP for Honda Fit stands at $17,000 for base FX which comes with a six-speed manual transmission. The new Sport trim goes for $18,500, while EX, also with a manual gearbox, has a price of $19,000. The choice of CVT raises the cost for $800, while Honda Sense will set you back for another $1,000. The most expensive option is automatic-only Honda Fit EX-L which goes for $21,000. The price of this version goes up for $1,000 if you want navigation as a part of your equipment.
Competitors
Even without any substantial changes, new Fit will continue to fair well against competitors. The most notable ones are Chevrolet Sonic, Ford Fiesta, Kia Rio, Nissan Versa, and Toyota Yaris.
