Porsche Introduced a New v8 Biturbo Engine

Without much pomp in Vienna Porsche presented the brand new V8 biturbo petrol engine that will be used in next-generation models like Cayenne and Panamera. We are always excited to see new power plants from German super car maker so let’s take a look what this one have to offer.

The Porsche have not yet offer officially details about the displacement of its new V8 biturbo engine, but we expect it to be 4.8-liter or similar. One of the things that have been already confirmed is that there will be the option of deactivating half of the available cylinders.

This feature will be used while the engine spins in the range from 950 to 3,500 rpm’s and the driver does not need all power. As a result, fuel consumption should be reduced by even up to 30 percent compared to the same situation when cylinder deactivation isn’t available. A bold statement that we are eager to test.

The engine is also optimized to have a start-stop system for use in a possibly hybrid applications. Depending on the model of the car in which this unit will be utilized, the engine will be offered with an 8-speed conventional automatic transmission or with the 8-speed dual clutch transmission.

For now, it is known that it will be capable of developing 549 hp and 770 NM of torque, at least in the new Panamera Turbo. Regardless of the significant increase in power compared to the old 4.8-liter V8 biturbo engine, this new engine will have a much lower average CO2 emissions.
