It was a range of light commercial vehicles that was first made available in 1965. Primarily, sold as a cargo van, the Transit is also built as a pickup truck, cutaway van chassis, and a passenger van minibus. Over 8,000,000 units have been sold by the company, which made it the third best-selling van of all time.
Marketed nearly globally apart from North America until 2013 after which it replaced the E-Series in 2015. For forty years, it remained the best-selling light commercial van in Europe. Even the term ‘Transit’ passed into common usage owing to this vehicle.
