While the X3 is cheaper than the X5, it is not BMW’s best-selling crossover which is unusual considering that it is an excellent car. Despite that, though, the car still sells very well and in order to keep those sale numbers high, a new model has been rumored to be released with the 2017 BMW X3, which is going to be an entirely new car rather than just a small facelift.
Latest reports suggest that new version will likely be based on BMW’s new CLAR architecture which was first showcased on the new Series 7. This is not all that unusual considering that there are many manufacturers using the same platform for multiple models in the lineup. As a result, we are getting more affordable vehicles because the development costs are lowered while the car company gets greater flexibility than usual.
The new X3 has been spied testing a while ago with heavy camouflage on it and even though BMW did not release any official details or even pictures about it. It is not all that hard to think about how it will look like or about what engines they are going to use considering that most of their cars are quite similar to each other, and many of them are using very similar powertrains.
2017 BMW X3 Release Date and Price
In order to be able to compete on the very saturated market, the new X3 is expected to be released by the end of the year, and its price is expected to stay in the same region. This will undoubtedly allow it to dethrone the Macan as the best crossover in its class as the X3 will be around $15,000 cheaper, or even more.

Just as we mentioned above, it is quite safe to assume that the new 2017 BMW X3 will be using a range of new or improved engines that will make it both fuel efficient and more powerful at the same time. The base model is now expected to use a new 1.5 liter turbocharged inline 3 unit in Europe which will provide around 180 horsepower while a 2.0-liter unit is also going to be offered with outputs ranging from 200 to 300 horsepower. The 3.0 liter inline six units are still going to be available and for the first time ever on the X3, a true M-model should come with as much as 450 horsepower making it a real beast.
BMW X3 Design
Likewise, the design of the 2017 BMW X3 has been rumored to remain pretty similar to that of the new X5 but a bit sportier which is a really nice move by BMW. The car will be wider and slightly longer than the older model but also shorter in height which should account for a much sportier design than before.
