2017 Toyota Tundra – medium sized truck!
Everyone will ask: any changes? Redesigned or not? What about Engine? Diesel or not? What is inside cabin (interior)? How much green dollars? When we can buy it (release date)?
Being released back in 2006, the current Tundra is the oldest medium sized truck in production today, and that shows in the total sales numbers which are declining with each passing year. Unfortunately, the updates Toyota did to the truck did not help it that much, so a new model has been rumored for some time.
The introduction of the new generation would easily be able to solve all these issues, and it would give Toyota a fighting chance against the all new Titan or even the upcoming Ram or GM trucks. While there aren’t official details about the completely redesigned vehicle, some rumors from Toyota insiders are suggesting it to be an entirely new model which would not only be a mild facelift, but it would use a new chassis as well as new engines.
These would definitely give them a good chance of getting ahead of their competitors, and it would also allow Toyota to build a more rugged and efficient truck than before. Our best bet would be that the upcoming 2017 Toyota Tundra will use a new boxed chassis made out of high strength steel which would decrease weight all by itself for about 200 pounds.
On top of that, the body will likely be redesigned in order to offer more structural rigidity and improve the truck’s safety rating while being lighter and easier to repair. To achieve these we expect either aluminum components of high strength or mild usage of steel in some parts of the truck.
New Tundra Interior?
Some renderings out there are suggesting that the upcoming truck will be rocking an entirely new cabin and interior. Further rumors suggest that its out shell will be smaller than before but thanks to the work they will do inside the cabin, the actual available space should be similar to the one that is momentarily available on the market.
The biggest letdown of the current model is the engine lineup which is very old and one of the worst regarding fuel efficiency. Rumors suggest that the new Tundra will be using an entirely new engine lineup which is greatly going to benefit from the agreement Toyota made with BMW.
What about 2017 Toyota Tundra Engine?
This might mean that the new Tundra will receive a 3.0 liter inline six petrol engine with one or two turbochargers offering anything between 310 and 420 horsepower and more than 400 lb-ft of torque in both applications. This would be more than before and thanks to the lower displacement, the engines would likely be a lot more fuel efficient.
Another rumor directed us in diesel possibility. It might also be used on the 2017 Toyota Tundra for the first time, but here things might get a bit more complicated. While rumors suggest a Cummins powertrain, Toyota’s 4.5-liter turbocharged V8 might be installed under the massive hood.
Release date?
No, we don’t know release date, but we expect it during second half od 2016.
What about Price?
Well, any price can be just a rumor. If we compare with last model it can be $30,335 and higer!
