Last year Chevrolet released new Colorado, but regarding many things, it wasn’t all that new. It had new powertrain added and new transmission which followed, but concerning the design, it remained unchanged. That’s why we are expecting that 2018 Chevrolet Colorado is going to be, well not redesigned, but at least facelifted by the end of this year. Let see where can changes begin.
Design
Most of the changes on 2018 Chevrolet Colorado are going to happen in the design area. Both inside and exterior of the pickup are getting outdated. Considering that for 2017 model entered completely unchanged compared to 2016 version you can see why changes are a necessity. The mid-size truck segment is ever-growing and changes on a daily basis, so Chevy, just like the competition, needs to improve its popular vehicle.
Being voted Truck Of The Year by motortrend for two past years Colorado has big shoes to fill. Expect more aggressive front end with a revised grille and new headlights. Side profile needs changing to be better incorporated with the rest of the truck which is probably going to have a little bit lower hood. At the back, taillights could be refreshed, and deck lid should be different.
Something that Ford did with its F-150 can be followed by 2018 Chevrolet Colorado. On the inside Michigan-based company probably won’t do anything radical but will only follow trends of the automotive industry. For years customers have described this model as the truck that feels car-like when inside and Chevy will look to keep this fell with upcoming version.
Engine Department
In the engine department, you shouldn’t expect any revolutionary upgrades for 2018 Chevrolet Colorado. Mostly because for 2017 model the company introduced an all new 3.6-liter V6 which is already available on GM vehicles such as Cadillac ATS and CTS, Chevrolet Camaro and Buick LaCrosse. When in the truck this unit has an output of 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Other powertrains available in the lineup will be transferred unchanged, and they include a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol and 2.8-liter turbodiesel I4. Another novelty in this department was the introduction of an eight-speed automatic transmission which replaced old six-speed and is available on all trims.
Ongoing Colorado price is in the region of $20,000 for a base model, and things shouldn’t change much for 2018 MY, but they will nevertheless change at least a little bit. Exterior changes and interior upgrades will push the price for entry model up to $21,000.
The release date for this truck hasn’t been scheduled yet, but from looking at market flexing, few conclusions can be drawn. With Ford planning its Ranger by 2018, and Ridgeline and Tacoma rapidly creating fan bases the Chevy needs to hurry up. Late 2017 release wouldn’t be too early, and that is why you can expect new Colorado presented before the year ends.
The 2018 Chevrolet Colorado will enter the market like its entering into the frying pan. The mid-size pickup market is crowded because the trucks of this size are in high demand. Most notable adversaries will come from the States, and they come in shape of 2017 GMC Canyon, newly announced 2019 Ford Ranger, and Japanese ones such as 2018 Toyota Tacoma (it’s being assembled in San Antonio, Texas), 2018 Honda Ridgeline, and Nissan Frontier.
