2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition – Always worth of every penny

2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition

Whether you are aware of that or not, it has been 65 years since first Corvette touched the tarmac. All those years of brute horsepower and iconic imagery are about to be celebrated with a special edition which is debuting at New York Auto Show. It will be limited to only 650 units, and that is on a global level, so read carefully and be quick if you want to end up with something special.

REQUIREMENTS

You cannot just buy Carbon 65 Edition in any case. This version could be applied to Grand Sport or Z06 model, and not just with any of those, but only with 3LT and 3LZ or highest trims in other words. Lower trims are not pairable with this edition, along with regular Corvette model in any trim.

Grand Sport with top 3LT trim is $76k, while Z06 in 3LZ trim is $89k. Topless versions are in both cases exactly four grand more. 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition adds $15k above all that, making the price go above $100k with supercharged V8.

2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition VISUAL GAIN

This edition is reserved for special visual touches, leaving things under the skin intact. Exterior color is Ceramic Matrix Grey, and despite gray in the name, it appears more white to us. Center of the hood, mirrors, roof, fender intakes, side skirts and rear spoiler are all covered in carbon. In the case of topless version, the roof is colored blue.

Special double spoke alloy wheels are in deep black with carbon caps and blue calipers behind. Fenders and doors have blue and black lettering depicting edition in question. On the inside, you’ll find black interior, joined by carbon trim also covering steering wheel, but also blue contrast stitching and Competition Sport seats. Door sills are also special carrying Corvette logo and name of the edition.

UNDER THE HOOD

We said that there are no changes under the skin and Corvette doesn’t need any. If you go for Vett’s sweet spot in the lineup or Grand Sport, you’ll end with 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 delivering 460 hp and 465 lb-ft paired with a 7-speed manual with rev matching or 8-speed automatic. That power is enough, with all enhancement included in Grand Sport version, for sublime lap times and perfect control over the car, while also enough for reaching 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. But if you are trying to kill yourself, you can go with untamed Z06 which adds a supercharger to mentioned V8 and ends with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. In that case, you’ll accelerate to 60 mph in three seconds, and go all the way to 205 mph if you ever dare.

SHOULD YOU?

Yes, and despite you have to go with highest trims and plus to that add $15k. 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition brings some visual delicacy which is hardly worth by itself mentioned cash requirements, but concerning what it tries to honor coupled with highly limited numbers, it is certainly more than just tempting. And for the end, if we are brutally honest, Vette is practically a supercar bargain and not even this edition is making it expensive.
