Chevy does carry some sports heritage undeniably. Further to that, it is absolutely dominant in Nascar racing and also most successful brand in its history by far. In conclusion, if the company decides to honor its race spirit, it has plenty to honor indeed. GM has pulled a great move for Chicago Auto Show, and the almost whole lineup has been treated with Redline series, which besides 2017 Chevrolet Colorado Redline edition, includes Silverado, Camaro, Cruze, Traverse, Equinox, Trax and Malibu.
WHAT DOES IT BRING?
It brings some visual tweaks, and it is all about the combination of gloss black and fiery red. Grille, mirrors, side steps, Chevy badges, door and tailgate handles are all darkened out. Windows are tinted, and alloys are also gloss black but contrasted by red stripes as a direct showcase of brand’s racing pedigree.
The further job of opposing all that mentioned blackness is taken by red recovery hooks and red lettering across the body. Interior stays unchanged in this case. Anyway, Redline brings interesting touches to Colorado, making it more interesting than the regular version. This edition joins the lineup with Custom, Midnight and Shoreline special models that are available from before.
HOW CAN I GET IT?
Redlin edition has just been revealed at the Chicago Auto Show, and it will be available for purchase in April this year. The exact price is unknown at this moment, but if we take a look at bigger brother Silverado which is already available in the same special edition, it requires $2,695 more in its case, so probably we are going to see similar numbers for Colorado.
That seems fine to us, as you’ll get yourself some uniqueness between the bunch of regular models. Just take a note that Redline edition is available only with LT Crew Cab 4WD and LT Extended Cab 2WD, so you can’t mix it with cheapest trims and options. If we make some calculations, cheapest way to get Redline is evidently with the Extended Cab in LT trim, and that is going to take around $30,000 from your pocket.

REST OF THE STUFF
Rest of the things remains the same. Under the hood is 2.5-liter I4 for a start, making 203 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. Next would be the 3.6-liter V6 delivering 309 hp and 269 lb-ft, which definitely presents a more decent option. The most interesting thing would be new and long waited heart, 2.8-liter I4 Duramax diesel, pumping out 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque at nicely low 2,000 rpm. It is evidently underpowered in hp figures compared to V6, but it can tow 600 pounds above V6’s 7,000 lbs, and it boosts quite better torque curve.
If you put aside the fact that V6 takes almost two and a half seconds less to 60 mph, I4 diesel could prove as an alluring choice when the capability is taken into consideration. Additionally, Colorado comes in 2WD or 4WD configuration, with manual, 6-speed or 8-speed automatic transmission. New 8-speed gearbox is only matched with V6, which was made possible last year when old 3.6-liter V6 was replaced by same sized new one, traveling all the way from the Camaro.
