2017 BMW M9 – Have You Met the New BMW?

2017 BMW M9

Every once in a while, there are rumors about BMW releasing a supercar to succeed the legendary M1 but until quite recently these proved to be false. Once they released the i8 hybrid supercar, it became apparent that BMW really does want to expand their market and not too long ago rumors about an all-new model started to emerge. It seems that this model might be released as the 2017 BMW M9, a car loosely based on the i8 but with a lot of changes made to its chassis and running gear to become a real supercar. So far there aren’t that many details available but just as we said above, the upcoming M9 is expected to use the carbon fiber structure of the i8 but with an entirely new body, running gear, engine, and interior. All of these will basically make a whole new car that will be priced accordingly to its class.

2017 BMW M9 Price

This means that the future M9 might start at well over $150,000 for a base model and more than $250,000 for a top of the range version, a pricing scheme similar to that of the Audi R8. However, the M9 will be a bit more different thankfully to its hybrid powertrain.

Many will say that we already have hybrid supercars like McLaren P1, LaFerrari, Porsche 918, etc., but have in mind that price for those three tends to spin at about $1mil and more. Official introduction date hasn’t been announced, but we could hear rumors about its release sometime in late 2017.

Engine options

According to some very strong rumors, the new 2017 BMW M9 will be offered with two different engine options. The base model, which will rival the R8 or the base 911, is expected to feature a longitudinally mid-mounted 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged inline six petrol engine good for up to 460 horsepower and over 400 lb-ft of torque. This will drive the rear wheels via a dual-clutch seven speed automatic.

A more powerful version will use the same petrol engine but as an extra it will also feature two electric motors on the rear axle, basically giving more than 600 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque in a rear wheel drive model, just like the P1 or the LaFerrari.

However, the BMW will be much cheaper, and it will offer an impressive performance level, but, to be honest, it will not be capable of competing with those hypercars.

Exterior and Interior

As for the car’s exterior, the future 2017 BMW M9 will come on the market with a unique design to cope with the harsh segment. We do expect it to be similar in size to the i8, but the car’s out shell will be all new and made out of carbon fiber for improved strength and low weight.

The cabin will also be all new, but some features from 5 or 7 Series sedans will be offered here. Since these are only early stage rumors, there is still a lot more time for changes.

The Appeal of Used BMW Cars in the Context of New Releases

While the 2017 BMW M9 marks a significant milestone in BMW’s lineup, offering cutting-edge technology and performance, it’s important to remember the enduring value found in used BMW cars. For enthusiasts and budget-conscious buyers alike, pre-owned BMWs present an opportunity to experience the luxury and performance of the brand at a more accessible price point. Models like the M3 or M5, revered for their blend of everyday usability and sports car performance, become even more attractive when their prices depreciate over time. This makes the dream of owning a BMW more attainable for a wider audience.

Moreover, BMW’s commitment to quality and durability means that even older models retain much of their original charm and capability. The pre-owned market often includes vehicles that are well-maintained and come with a full service history, ensuring peace of mind for new owners. Additionally, for those who admire the brand’s history, used BMWs offer a chance to own a piece of automotive legacy, be it the classic elegance of a 3 Series from the early 2000s or the raw power of a 90s-era M5.
