2017 Chevrolet Tahoe – Species in Extinction

2017 Chevrolet Tahoe

To make it little bit more understanding how we came to the Tahoe, we have to look into the past and time of Chevy Blazer and GMC Jimmy which were produced in different sizes. In 1992 GMC renamed bigger version of Jimmy to Yukon and Chevrolet followed in 1995 naming full-size Blazer to Tahoe. Tahoe is a member of body-on-frame chassis family, making it kind of a rarity in the world of modern crossovers, but for everyone looking for more than elevated stance and make-up, this SUV delivers features that look promising. The current generation was introduced in 2014 and let’s see what 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe has to offer.

OVERALL DESIGN

On the outside,2017 Chevrolet Tahoe is huge, as expected of course. Sheer size makes it imposing on the road, and manly, boxy look suggest capability and strength of experienced lumberjack. Back of the car is just not changing through generations but it is highly adjusted to the vehicle’s purpose, as it can seat 8 with last three of them in bearable comfort.

Interior space at the front is vast in the same manner, as armrest is wide enough to sit a child on it. The design is pleasing with modern accents, and used materials are of good quality, which is pleasurable to eye as is for touching. An improvement over the previous generation is more than evident and 2017 Chevy Tahoe won’t dissapoint here. Cargo capacity isn’t special for a vehicle in this class with 51.6 cubic feet behind the second row as competition offers more.

ENGINE AND EFFICIENCY

There is one engine choice, but it is mighty, so there are no reasons for you to complain. Big 5.3-liter V8 engine that produces 355 hp and 383 pound-feet of torque is paired to six-speed automatic, while rear-wheel drive with a locking rear differential is standard, and four-wheel drive with a single-speed transfer case is available as an option.

The strong side here would be the towing capacity of 8,600 pounds, and 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds is no less praiseworthy. Fuel economy is 19 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive and 18 mpg combined with four-wheel drive version.

DRIVE

It is designed to tow a house while accommodating large family inside, with all their stuff, so expect some compromises in terms of handling and maneuverability. It is massive and massively heavy, and it has no way to hide it. It is decent behaving over bumps and quietness is one of the virtues. Although acceleration time is good, a delayed reaction for pedal pushing making it feel more sluggish and causing you to lose valuable seconds while overtaking.

NEW FOR 2017

Novelty is the fact that top trim level is now called Premier instead of LTZ and now it includes low-speed automatic braking paired with the existing forward collision warning system, a teen-driver management system and a reminder to check the backseats for child occupants, while cooled seats have now been replaced with ventilated seats.

TRIMS

Standard LS trim offers 18-inch alloy wheels, active grille shutters for improved aerodynamics, heated mirrors, automatic wipers, cruise control, remote keyless entry, tri-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power adjustable driver seat and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Everything additional is distributed in LT and finally Premium trim level.

CONCLUSION

While crossovers with an illusive sense of capabilities are storming the market, there will always be a place for real players offering what we should expect from large SUV, and that is preserving place on the market for 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. So title seems exaggerated now a bit.
