2018 Honda Odyssey – Updated and Refreshed ! Although nowadays many choose to buy an SUV or a crossover as their family car, there are folks who won’t let go of minivans. Honda was clearly thinking about them, which is why it introduced the new Odyssey at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
Design – Interior & Exterior of new Honda Odyssey 2018
The new cabin features many updates and is quieter, more technologically equipped and practical. In fact, the new cabin is so silent that Honda claims it is the quietest in the class. The 2018 Odyssey features a standard noise cancellation system, triple door seals, increased sound deadening and optional acoustic front and side glass.
An 8-inch touchscreen combined with a volume knob is responsible for the info display and audio system which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A rear entertainment system can be used to stream a video either through a 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection or any other Wi-Fi source.
Using the new CabinControl app and their phones, passengers may decide what they want to watch on the rear display. They may also adjust rear end climate, upload music and access Odyssey’s navigation system to set destinations.
Cameras cover the second and third row of seats and send a live feed to the frontal CabinWatch system. Another possibility is the CabinTalk system which enables speaking through rear speakers and headphones that are connected to the entertainment system.
Now there are four different seating configurations thanks to Magic Slide system. Both Separation and Buddy mode have the center seat out, but instead of rearranging captain’s seats at the outer positions (Separation), Buddy mode places the captain’s seats in the center together. Easy Access mode sets the second-row of seats behind the driver in the middle and forward, whereas a version of Easy Access named “Super mode” has the seatback moved forward so the front passengers can clearly see the third-row passengers that are in most cases kids.
2018 Honda Odyssey Safety
When it comes to safety, fans will be glad to know that automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, land departure warning, lane keeping assist and parking sensors are offered in the 2018 Odyssey.
2018 Honda Odyssey Specs
The new model will run on a new 3.5-liter, direct injection V6 engine with cylinder deactivation. The 2018 vehicle has 280 hp in total (32 hp increase). The base model will have a nine-speed automatic gearbox, while the higher trim levels will feature 10-speed automatic.
Honda used more high-strength steel, aluminum, and magnesium to build a new chassis and body structure which provide the Odyssey with better handling as well as speed. 2018 version will be 96 pounds lighter and will have an increase in body rigidity by 44 percent. The power steering system is improved along with a new rear suspension.
What about PRICE of new Honda Odyssey?
The 2018 Honda Odyssey will go head to head with Chrysler Pacifica, Kia Sedona and Toyota Sienna and is expected to hit the showrooms this spring. We do not know how much it will cost, but the price should resemble the one that the outgoing model has $29,850.
2018 Honda Odyssey Update: 12/23/16
With cars like the all new Pacifica and Sedona, the current model of the Odyssey is not exactly up to date. It looks old; it drives like an old car, and it simply is not as powerful as the competition. Not that long ago a test mule of the car has been spied testing and wearing heavy camouflage. Even though Honda did not say much about it, rumors suggest that the car is closer to release than we thought. In fact, we expect the upcoming 2018 Honda Odyssey to be launched by the end of the year and go into production sometime in the mid of 2017. Its price should not be affected by the big change meaning that the car will still start around $30,000 so that it remains one of the best options in the segment.
This winter many automakers decided to launch their new minivans and Honda is one of them. The Japanese automaker will introduce the fifth-generation Odyssey people mover at the Detroit Auto Show that is scheduled for January 2017. Less than a month ago Chrysler introduced its new Pacifica minivan, and we can’t wait to see which of these arch-rivals will outperform and outscore the other.
On December 19th, Honda posted an official teaser image of the 2018 Odyssey carefully hiding many exterior features. Nevertheless, some new options are visible, one of which is the vehicle’s rearmost roof pillar that is quite different from what we usually see on a minivan. So far, Honda always made an effort to emphasize narrow roof pillars and large windows in order to gain maximum visibility. This is not the case with the new Odyssey that has a massive rear roof pillar.
Other than that, no additional news related to the new Odyssey came out, and we can only speculate about the features of the new minivan. The 2018 model is expected to run on the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine paired up with a 9-speed automatic transmission that the Honda Pilot already uses. Also, we are certain that there will be a hybrid version, but we still do not know if Honda plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid that will be able to work only on electricity before firing the gas engine like Chrysler did.
The 2018 Honda Odyssey will almost certainly feature a more versatile interior than the outgoing model. The second row of seats that can be moved while a child seat is attached to them would be nice if you ask me. This maneuver is only doable in the Pacifica when it comes to this segment.
The 2018 Odyssey will be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show on January 9th, and we are looking forward to analyzing it thoroughly.
Platform
One of the largest upgrades from the previous model will be the platform. The new Odyssey is going to use the same platform that underpins the new Honda Pilot or Ridgeline. Currently used one is made out of high-strength steel while the new Odyssey is also going to use a lot more aluminum. This should allow the car to be with up to 500 pounds lighter than before while remaining and even improving stiffness and safety level. Also, the NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) will be reduced considerably while the car’s lower weight should make it better to drive, more efficient and more comfortable.
Interior – New 2018 Honda Odyssey looks GREAT!!
The model that has been spied a while ago is a Honda and not an Acura. Why are we saying this? Well, it features a new interior with a lot of Honda badges and on top of that, it looks like a minivan. The car seems to be slightly longer than before and also wider. However, it doesn’t appear to be any taller. The new platform which it will share with the Pilot also means that the car might get a lower floor. This will allow for more passenger space, a bigger trunk and likely a better layout of the interior.
As we said above, the car’s interior is going to change and improve quite drastically. The upcoming 2018 Honda Odyssey is going to feature an all-new design. The dashboard will get rid of the rather old looking center stack and instead, it will now look a lot more like a premium sedan. This will feature a slightly narrower center stack with fewer buttons. Furthermore, the gear selector seems to have been moved from the center stack and replaced by Honda with either a push-button selector or even a column mounted one in which case it would make it easier to use. The trunk-mounted vacuum cleaner which everyone loved is going to make a return.
2018 Honda Odyssey Engine – Best of the BEST
The rumored 2018 Honda Odyssey is said to feature still a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6. This is a bit more different than what many people said that Honda would go for a turbocharged engine. The new V6 would be the same unit that can be found in the Pilot or the new Ridgeline. However, it is expected to be tweaked for use in the minivan which can to be slightly less powerful, and usually, it has to tow less as well. We do expect the engine to make around 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque in the new Odyssey. This would be substantially more than before and with the help of direct injection and also a new transmission it should offer far better results.
That’s right; the old six-speed unit is finally going to be replaced. However, at this point, there are no clear details about its successor. Some said that a CVT gearbox might be installed in the car. Honda’s nine-speed automatic, which is made by ZF, would also be a good choice. In any case, we do hope that an all-wheel-drive version of the car is going to be released. This would certainly appeal to some people, and it would make the Odyssey great for any environment and road condition.
