The upcoming 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE crossover prototype, code-named W167, has been spotted on the roads of southern Europe. We have some spy shots for you and a bunch of rumors and information.
GLE Prototype Design, Platform
According to various sources, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE is based on the company’s MHA platform, just like the new GLC, but with longer wheelbase. This also means more space inside the cabin. Prototype, although heavily disguised, has a noticeable new front design with more prominent bonnet and new headlights. There are also minor changes on the rear, the window is more raked, while the profile shows new wheel arch design. You can see the spy shots in gallery below.
Engine, Specs, Performance
It appears that the base 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE is going to be powered by the V-6 gasoline and diesel engines, while the high-performance 2019 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 will come with a twin-turbocharged V-8 unit, all paired with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive. Figures are not known at this moment. Hybrid variants are also expected.
Release Date, Competition
When the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE go on sale worldwide sometime in 2018, for the 2019 model year, it will be a direct competitor to the 2018 Porsche Macan, 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and 2018 BMW X6. The Coupe variant is expected to be released soon after that.
