The vehicle he auctioned off at Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Classic Car Sale is the 2005 Ford GT. This is such a unique car, and it is just one of 101 GTs that were shipped to Europe. Moreover, Ford National Sales Company marked this model “VIP.” Eventually, the 2005 Ford GT was sold for just under £265,000.
At the time, Will Smith, Silverstone Auctions sales manager said: “The Ford GT is part of a rare class of modern cars that instantly become collectible, and have become more and more sought after. Given its inimitable heritage, prolific performance, stunning design, and thrilling driving experience, the Ford GT is a very special creation that will undoubtedly be revered for many years to come. In addition, it was once Jenson Button’s very own, adding even more exciting provenance and collectability to this particular example.”
The Ford GT used a lightweight aluminum chassis whereas under the hood it featured a V8 engine that produced 550bhp. The unit was combined with a six-speed manual gearbox and racing suspension and brakes, but it is no longer in Button’s garage.
