Volvo Is Working on a Safer and More Comfortable Child Seats

Volvo is one of the biggest proponents of vehicle safety, but company’s latest initiative is not related to technology for car improvements, at least not directly. This time, they are focused on making children seats safer and more comfortable.
Senior technical manager for the prevention of injuries for this company Lote Jakobson says that problems arise when parents allow their children to sit forward-facing too early, and also, many have complained about the comfort of child seats. It does not provide enough space for the legs of children, and they are often too hot, due to the heating of materials used for their production.

In order to fix this problem, Volvo is launching a range of three new seats. They are made with an 80% wool textile that is more comfortable than traditional upholstery. The new seats are highly durable, smoother to the touch, and better-performing in both hot and cold climates. The design is simplified, which will provide the increase leg room, but also improved comfort.
The rearward-facing infant seat aims to accommodate kids that weigh up to 14kg and are less than one year old. From there, the company recommends a rearward-facing child seat that is designed for children between the ages of 9 months and six years old. Once a child has outgrown the rearward-facing seat, parents can buy a forward-facing seat.

The seats were developed with Britax-Römer and will be available in select markets this June. There are no words about the pricing, but we expect to see quite a hefty price tag.
