The Galpin GTR1 is a limited production hypercar built on the bones of the older model of the Ford GT. This comes with a new skin on the outside and a lot of other minor tweaks which make it a unique car. So far the company managed to sell all the units they made and rumors suggest that they are going to make more. Expect to see the 2016 Galpin Ford GTR1 offered in the next few months. The car would likely be nearly identical to the 2013 model with a few minor differences inside the cabin. It could also receive a new engine, but so far this remains to be seen.
Price and Changes
Because it is based on the older Ford GT, the Galpin comes with a mid-mounted engine and not much else. The car is a go-kart with a massive V8 strapped to it. The older model didn’t feature any traction control, ABS or even any other safety systems. This made it quite difficult to drive forcing some people to turn around from buying it and opting for other supercars. Rumors suggest that the 2016 model will feature a very effective ABS with all new brake system as well as a rudimentary traction control system that should be able to be overwritten. On top of that, the car’s base price is expected to increase. While the first few models were priced at roughly $1 million, the new one should get closer to $1,5 million. Since we saw the previous version becoming icon immediately, we expect same to happen with the new car. Prices of these vehicles can only go up after you buy them, and it is a great investment, but you do need to have a very deep pocket for it.
Interior and Exterior Features of 2016 Galpin Ford GTR1
This is a lot of money, especially for a car that is a beefed up Ford GT. However, as we said above, the 2016 Galpin Ford GTR1 will feature an all-new skin on the outside making it nearly the same as that of the older model which in its turn was loosely based on the older Ford GT90. This was an iconic hypercar which almost made it into production. The 2016 model might get a slightly different set of wheels with less chrome as well as a different rear end. Here an active spoiler might be installed which should help with keeping the car on the road at really high speeds. Additional aerodynamics bits and pieces fill find its way to body improving grip and cornering abilities at higher speeds.
Unfortunately, because it is based on a car more than a decade old, the cabin of the Galpin will be the same as before. This is usually quite comfortable even though it doesn’t seem like it. However, the gearbox is clunky and not that easy to use, the clutch is very heavy, and the visibility is poor. The new model will be exactly same like before, so don’t expect any real changes besides a few new color options and probably a new infotainment system. Have in mind that main goal of this car is to return closest to real racing experience.
Engine and Transmission
Let’s now move to the most impressive part about the future 2016 Galpin Ford GTR1, its engine. This time around Galpin might finally ditch the old 5.4-liter V8 in the favor of an all-new powertrain. Some rumors suggested that they would go for the same 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that can be found on the new Ford GT. This would likely be tuned to provide over 900 horsepower and 900 lb-ft of torque, but the car could become a bit too heavy with it.
Another possible engine would be the older 5.4 liter V8 from the Ford GT but instead of the massive supercharger, it could get a compound-charging system. This would use a smaller supercharger and two smaller turbochargers. The end result could be a car that will have well over 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft of torque while not being heavier than 3,400 pounds. The only downside here is likely going to be the gearbox. Like before, a 6-speed manual is going to be used which is among the least enjoyable manuals out there due to the sheer amount of force needed to operate it. This should be one of the things on the list to be upgraded ASAP, and we hope that there will be an optional dual clutch unit with paddle shifter controls.
