The current generation of Juke is, believe it or not, seven years old. The time is about right for a complete redesign, and Nissan will do just that with this small crossover. Officials from Japanese manufacturer have already announced that the new model will be presented in 2017. But first things first, before the showing off production model we will see Nissan Juke EV Concept. That’s right! Not just that the new Juke is going to have a radical new design, but it will also be a hybrid.
Regarding the design of Nissan Juke EV Concept is going to look similar to Gripz concept which debuted in 2015. At this moment we are not sure just how much will these look alike but a combination of current Juke and Gripz look doesn’t seem like a bad idea. On the interior we can’t say much right now, so we will just have to wait for concept’s official presentation.
Nissan Juke Ev Concept Powertrain
The part of Nissan Juke EV Concept that is known right now is the engine bay. The powertrain is the same as the one that is being used on the e-Power Nissan Note. That means that the Nissan’s 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline unit is going to be paired with an electric generator and inverter. This combination means that the battery won’t be powered from an outside source, but that petrol engine is going to act as a generator for cars electric motor.
The Yokohama-based company didn’t release numbers for the electric range but considering that battery pack is the 1/20 of the cell size of the one available in current Nissan Leaf we are not sure what to expect. Let’s just say that you shouldn’t expect impressive numbers. There are benefits of battery this small since it won’t take anything from the Juke EV’s interior plus it will not add a lot of weight to the vehicle.
Nissan Juke Ev Release date
As we already mentioned carmaker said that Nissan Juke EV Concept is going to debut this year, and they are staying true to their word. This model will debut at 2017 Tokyo International Motor Show which starts on October 27th. The debut will happen this year, but for a production model that will be available for purchase, we will just have to wait till 2018.
Juke EV Price
The price of ongoing Nissan Juke ranges from $20,250 for a Juke S Xtronic FWD to $30,000 for a Juke NISMO RS Xtronic AWD. We are not sure where will Nissan slide in EV version, but considering that NISMO version of Juke EV is less likely, the new model could cost less that $30,000.
As far as the competition goes, the EV version of Juke will go against standard rivals such as 2017 Kia Soul, 2017 Mazda CX-3, 2017 Kia Niro, 2017 Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500X, 2018 Honda HR-V and 2017 Chevrolet Trax.
