2018 Toyota Camry

The Japanese automaker decided to redesign one of its best-selling models in order to keep up with the competition. The outgoing car was introduced in 2012, but customers were not satisfied with it, so Toyota refurbished it for 2015.

The 2018 model which was unveiled on Monday, January 9 at the Detroit Auto Show will hit the market this summer. The new Toyota Camry is not the car it used to be since this one performs better and has a sporty look. With these changes, we are sure that Toyota preserved the reliability we are used to getting from Camry.

2018 Toyota Camry Platform

The Camry has the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform that was modified to suit it. The Prius and C-HR use the same platform which shows a totally different way in which Toyota builds its models. Toyota started using this platform because it is lightweight and has a low center of gravity which provides their vehicles with better handling and other performance-related features. This is why the 2018 model is 1.6 inches lower than its predecessor.

Under the Hood

From the beginning, three powertrain options will be available to customers. The first is a 2.5-liter inline four with an eight-speed automatic, the second is the 3.5-liter V6, and the third is a next-generation hybrid system that combines 2.5-liter I4 and an E-CVT which is an electric motor with CVT.

Still no word on specifications of these options, but we should expect more info as it gets closer to showroom debut. Toyota is confident that the hybrid version will have best-in-class fuel economy.

Design – Interior

The Camry also features changes to the interior. The seats are lower to the ground which is no surprise since Toyota used a new platform. Designed to appeal to be more appealing to the driver, dashboard controls are angled in that direction. The infotainment system features an 8.0-inch display which is positioned in the center of the dash, whereas a 7.0-inch screen is responsible for the main instrument cluster.

Throughout the cabin, the Camry features soft-touch materials. The basic safety pack has pedestrian detection, collision warning, blind spot, rear cross traffic warning and adaptive cruise control.

2018 Toyota Camry – First Spy Photos

Even though many people said that the Camry would be discontinued, only a few days ago a camouflaged car has been spied testing. This was wearing the Toyota badge and from the look of it, the car seems to be the upcoming 2018 Toyota Camry. This is great news because the Camry is the best-selling family sedan around the World. It is dependable, quite efficient and highly durable.

The car is also quite cheap but not by actually being cheap but being designed with cheapness in mind. The new generation is expected to follow the same type of design and while some things will change, most will remain the same as before.

2018 Toyota Camry News & Updates

This means that the future Toyota Camry 2018 will be a no-frills family car with everything you could ever need. Despite that, some rumors suggest that the car might get a lot more interesting than we first thought. For starters, the car will be using an all-new platform. It will share its underpinnings with the all new Prius. This is a modular platform which makes heavy use of aluminum and high-strength steel.

Thanks to it the production costs should go down while the rigidity and safety of the car will be improved. The new chassis also means that the new Camry will get lighter. Lightness is always good for fuel efficiency, speed and comfort. Despite being cheaper to make don’t expect any real changes to its price. The car should still start around $23,000 with the top end models being priced at well above $30,000.

Toyota Camry 2018 Engine

Likely one of the biggest problems with the current model is its base engines. The 2.5 and 3.5-liter engines are average in pretty much everything. The rumored 2018 Toyota Camry, on the other hand, is expected to make use of all new units. The base model might get to use a new 1.5-liter three cylinder turbocharged unit with more than 180 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. This would not only be more than the previous 2.5-liter engine, but it would also be more efficient, likely smoother and also easier to ensure.

The 3.5-liter engine, on the other hand, might get to see another day. This is expected to be heavily revised with direct injection and a lot of new features. This time around the output will crawl north of 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.

For those looking for fuel efficiency and power, a 2.0-liter turbocharged mill has also been rumored for a long time. With as much as 250 horsepower, this would make a great mid-level engine with no obvious drawbacks. Unlike the previous model, an eight-speed automatic is expected to be used across the range as standard. The hybrid model, on the other hand, is supposed to be carried over completely unchanged.

2018 Toyota Camry Design

The facelift model of the Camry is not exactly what we would call ugly. This makes us think that its rumored upgrade will be not that more different. In fact, the model spied a while ago seems quite similar in the front where the two appear to get a very similar grille and headlights design. We are pretty sure though that the profile and rear of the car are going to be completely redesigned. In fact, we expect the car to feature a similar design to the Prius.

While these are just rumors, for now, it would allow Toyota to get ahead of the competition. The cabin of the current model is not that impressive, and we hope that the future 2018 Toyota Camry will be something more special. We hope to see less cheap plastic and more aluminum in the top end models as well as softer materials around the areas usually touched by passengers.

Competition: Nissan Altima, Honda Accord, Mazda 6, Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Sonata.
