Cadillac has been long teasing us with a three-row SUV. The first rumors started in 2011, but up until now, there weren’t any developments. But, now we have first spy photos of what’s going to be 2020 Cadillac XT6. The test mules have been spotted on few occasions which is a clear indication that the work on XT6 is finally underway.
Release date and Competitors of 2020 Cadillac XT6
It is not sure that this SUV will carry the brand name XT6, but for now, we will stick to it. According to motorauthority.com, this vehicle could have its debut this November at Los Angeles Motor Show. Dealerships will have to wait some more time after that. The launch is expected by mid-2019, while new XT6 will be sold as 2020 MY in the United States.
From what we can tell by looking at spy shots is that 2020 Cadillac XT6 is going to be a mid-size SUV. Because of this its main competitors are going to be Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, and Lexus RX L. Another rival, Lincoln, will look to launch their Aviator at the same time, so these two will fight one another for a spot under the sun.
Exterior, Interior, And Platform
The design will be similar to what Cadillac already offers with its smaller XT5 crossover. The sleeker look of 2020 XT6 is due to lower roof and hood. The lights, both in front and at the back, are still not those that will be used on the production model, so we won’t comment on them. If you are curious how will they look then go and see recently released Cadillac CT6.
What comes as a disappointment is that 2020 Cadillac XT6 won’t be riding on the rear-wheel-drive Omega platform. It seems that these underpinnings are used exclusively on the CT6 model. Instead of the Omega, new XT6 will use General Motors C1XX platform, which will be elongated to fit the needs of the three-row SUV. This platform is used by Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave both of which are measured at 204.3 inches in length. The use of this platform has its benefits as it will be cost-effective and will also aid in differentiating 2020 Cadillac XT6 from its sibling, Escalade.
In order to stay competitive, the company will have to fill new 2020 Cadillac XT6 with the best available technology. You should expect the latest version of CUE interface which would come with a 10-inch display, a video-streaming rear-view mirror, and various safety features and driver assist options such as Super Cruise (hands-free driver support feature for highways).
Under The Hood
Because of C1XX platform, you shouldn’t expect to find Cadillac’s new 4.2-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 under the hood of new XT6. This is a shame, but a twin-turbocharged V-6 with 400 horsepower should be enough to attract customers. So let’s see what Caddy has to offer? What the company has in its arsenal are 3.0-liter and 3.6-liter V-6 units. It should provide a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with 335 hp as an entry-level option. All-wheel drive and eight-speed transmission are also expected as the standard pieces of equipment.
2020 Cadillac XT6 Price
The price of 2020 Cadillac XT6 will be in the mid-$50,000 region. The starting price reflects its position in the Cadillac lineup. It will be positioned above XT5 which starts at $40,000, and below Escalade whose base price is $75,000.
